Owen White sponsors bfa Women in Franchising Event

Franchising specialist solicitors Owen White have agreed to sponsor the British Franchise Association’s (bfa) 2017 Women In Franchising event, having also sponsored it in 2015 and 2016.

The event, which will be held at the Chesford Grange Hotel in Warwickshire on 16 November 2017 is open to any woman who would like to be successful in business.

British Franchise Association

Owen White Solicitors have been involved with the British Franchise Association since its inception in 1977, advising the founder members and drafting the association’s constitution. Members of the bfa must meet their strict criteria for the structure of their franchise business, the terms of the contract between franchisor and franchisee, the testing of their system and its success as a franchise.

Women in Franchising

The 2015 NatWest/bfa survey revealed that women only account for 23% of franchisees in the UK. The survey also revealed that over the last two years, only 17% of new franchisees have been women, revealing a need to increase the proportion of women in the industry which is has an annual turnover of £15.1bn, brought about by 901 franchised brands, operating out of 44,200 outlets and employing 621,000 people, with 97% of them operating profitably.

Franchise solicitors

Head of franchising at Owen White, Jane Masih, who herself has over 30 years of experience in the franchise legal sector and is widely regarded as one of the most experienced franchise legal professionals in the UK said,

‘I’m delighted to say that franchising in 2017 still offers female franchisors and franchisees a great opportunity to run their own profitable, successful businesses. Our job, as franchise professionals and with events like this, is to spread the word about a business model that is frequently misunderstood or simply not considered by many women as a route to business success. I hope that any woman, who is either running her own businesses or who is looking to buy a franchise, will come along and meet some of the biggest names in the sector and learn how franchising could benefit them.’
