In what has rapidly become a firm favourite in the Owen White events calendar, staff across all departments have spent the weekend baking in preparation for this week’s Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
Experienced bakers and enthusiastic amateurs alike will be shipping in their cakes, bakes, slices and pies every day this week, selling their creations to colleagues to raise money for charity.
As in the Great British Bake Off, the ultimate goal for any baker this will be to receive a ‘Russell Handshake’ from director Russell Ford, widely known as the firm’s cake connoisseur.
On launch day the kitchen is full of blondies, cupcakes, fruitcake peanut butter cookies, krispie cakes, cinnamon buns and lemon and poppy-seed cake.
More baked goods will arrive each day, rounded off at the end of the week by some home-baked savoury Indian samosas and bhajis.
Without a soggy bottom in sight, Owen White staff have taken the event to their hearts and take great pride in sharing their sweet treats with colleagues every year, raising much needed money at the same time.
Jane Masih, director and keen weekend baker said,
‘Sadly we all know someone who has been affected by cancer and as such we are all very happy to get stuck in to some baking, to raise funds for a charity that supports people in their darkest hour.’
